The FCU — or Fire Control Unit, as SIG calls it — is the gun’s heart and soul. The registered, serialized gun part attaches to the rest of the pistol and accepts accessories like grip modules, slides, and barrels. The FCU is where the trigger lives, which means the internal safeties live there too.

Sig Sauer didn’t release a formal recall, instead offering a voluntary trigger upgrade for affected guns. They have also said that their weapons pass drop-safe testing and other tests to ensure they are safe in a holster.
